Want to Resign from the Union?




So you want to resign from the union. Well we don't blame you. With a poor economy and poor representation from this union they feel they deserve a fee increase. It almost appears they were cut from the same mold as the "greedy old corporate executives". As requested here are your steps to get out of this union.


You will need to know your union anniversary date. To find the signature date (anniversary) on your dues card, contact Carol Jarvis 794-7481 or any labor representative. Create a resignation letter with all of the information required from the union and company to confirm your identity and to speed up the process.
When you joined the Union, you agreed to deduct dues from your wages, payable to the Union. Your authorization is irrevocable for one (1) year from the date you joined, or until the end of that applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), whichever is sooner. It is automatically renewed as an irrevocable authorization each year or each applicable CBA period thereafter, whichever is less unless You give written notice, by certified mail, of revocation to the Company and to the Union not more than twenty (20) and not less than five (5) days before the expiration of each yearly period or of each applicable CBA, whichever comes sooner. You agreed that this authorization would continue in full force even if you resign your Union membership, except if properly revoked in the manner prescribed above.

Employees who want to cancel their Union dues deduction may do so at the following times:
1. Not less than five (5) calendar days nor more than twenty (20) calendar days before the anniversary date of the authorization they have on file with the Company.
2. Or, not less than five (5) calendar days nor more than twenty (20) calendar days prior to the end of the contract.
3. Cancellation is effective on the first day of the month after the irrevocable period of dues deduction authorization on file with the Company and the Union.


Provided is a sample calendar to illustrate the time window required by the company and the union in receiving your resignation letter. For example your union anniversary date is Feb 26 you must make sure the company and the union receives your letter between Feb 6 through Feb 20 as highlighted in green.
